Begin with the End in Mind

Begin with the End in Mind

Teachers always have many things to do; believe it or not and for me one of the most difficult part   is to develop a good  lesson plan that includes a measurable learning objective. Sometimes, I started looking for the activities,  and I have not set the goal yet. This week, I learned that I have to begin with the end in mind. What does it mean? In my own words, I can say that it refers to set a clear goal taking in to account what will the students know and  be able to do by the end of a class. This information is really helpful for me because it is applicable not only for educational scenery. I am also a daughter, wife, student, and  dreamer, I mean it is possible to apply in other fields like psychology, business among other. I am pretty sure that I will use it my entire life. Remember, every time that you really want to make that something happens just keep in mind the first step to achieve it "Begin with the end in mind".

Shaping the Way I Teach

Shaping the Way I Teach

I am an English teacher and I really love to work with my students. I know that  a good teacher always learns new things, every day, to be better and try to look for the way to become the best teacher. That is the reason why  I really want to improve and learn as much as I can because teachers can inspire and do remarkable things if they want to.

I am still studying and attending to teacher training because I think learning is a constant process that will really help me: develop my English skills, strength my weaknesses and make me feel more confident. Now, I have things to consider for my English classes, for example:  motivate my students, provide them  with opportunities to use the language in real situation,  engage them in active learning activities, monitor students learning, and understand the social and emotional needs among others. It is clear for me that I can shape the way that I teach. I have learned from my mistakes and it is time to try different things. I can change the wrong things and keep doing the right ones. I always keep in mind my own slogan: You have the power to do incredible things, just believe it.

Rediscovering My Own Teaching Personality

I did a really interesting personality test that helped me to reflect about myself called: True Colors at SILC.  Consequently, I realized that my predominant color is blue.

This color releases in the way that I teach. Now, I can  understand why I am always so flexible with my students, so I give them a lot of opportunities because I strongly believe in second chances. I am so emotional and caretaker. That is why I think it will be a good idea  to set up rules with my students since the beginning of the school year and let them know the due date for homework, assignment or workshop. In that way,  they will be aware of their learning process and also learn about the importance of responsibility in order to built up a better place to live.

The Best Teaching Method

I read a question last Thursday focused on the best teaching method for helping language learners to acquire or learn a second language. I was thinking about it and trying to figure it out but only one thing came up to my mind: there was not.

I do not have  enough  experience on this topic but based on my own short experience I may say that teachers have to be ecletic, using different methods that will vary according to the level, the skills, the size of a class, students' needs, among other. Each student has his or her own learning style and they are simply too different and unique. For these reasons, I think it is imposible that just one method can be the best.
